Are our watches automatic?

Yes. All Trilobe watches are fitted with self-winding mechanical movements. This means the watch is powered by the energy of your wrist's movements: an oscillating weight gradually winds the mainspring.

But what is the difference between an automatic watch, a manual-winding watch and a quartz watch?

An automatic movement is a mechanical movement that winds itself through the motion of your wrist. As you wear the watch, its oscillating weight spins and stores energy in the mainspring. An automatic watch therefore needs no battery and winds naturally as you wear it.

A manual-winding movement is also mechanical, but it has no self-winding system. You need to turn the crown regularly to wind the mainspring by hand and give the watch the energy it needs to run.

A quartz movement, on the other hand, works on a different principle. It uses a battery and a quartz oscillator to regulate the watch's timekeeping with great precision. Unlike mechanical movements, it doesn't require any winding of a mainspring.

At Trilobe, we chose mechanical movements with automatic winding. Beyond its function, the mechanical movement is an integral part of our approach to watchmaking: it brings the watch to life through an assembly of mechanical components that run without a battery.
