Are our watches automatic?

Yes. All Trilobe watches are equipped with self-winding mechanical movements. They operate without a battery: the movement of the wrist sets an oscillating weight in motion, which gradually winds the mainspring and provides the energy required to power the watch.

What is the difference between an automatic, manual-winding and quartz movement?

An automatic movement is a mechanical movement that winds itself while the watch is being worn. The movement of the wrist drives an oscillating weight, which winds the mainspring and stores the energy required for the watch to operate.

A manual-winding movement is based on the same mechanical principle but does not have an automatic winding system. The mainspring must therefore be wound regularly by hand by turning the crown.

A quartz movement works differently: it is powered by a battery and uses a quartz oscillator to regulate the watch’s timekeeping. It therefore does not rely on a mechanical winding system.

At Trilobe, we have chosen to use exclusively self-winding mechanical movements. Their operation relies on the interaction of numerous mechanical components and allows the watch to function without a battery, drawing its energy from the movements of the person wearing it.
